22 meters of Forest
Moving from the center of a small town to a small village in the middle of the forest has impacted my visual and sensory experience greatly.
During this time I experienced the landscape of the forest as the main subject in my paintings. I lived through the forest’s contrasting seasons and events: its silence as snow covered pine trees in winter; its budding after fire winds consumed it; and I was filled with wonder at once again seeing it flourish in the spring. The atmosphere was charged with many changes and I, in turn, lived through the beauty and joy of many sensations such as different smoke scents to various types of wind storms. These experiences made me feel alive. I chose to paint the forest in a palette representing the fall season. The paintings were composed from many photographs I shot during my experience walking and breathing through its magical landscape. – Regina Saura
